I very much enjoy listening to your show - SEO ADVISOR. I am hoping you can give me some help. I am a sales rep in Chicago for Waste Management and I've decided to create a website to help generate leads.

My website is www.wmchicago.com -

Here is my question (I hope it makes sense).

My keyword phrase is going to mainly target businesses in Chicago. I feel there are a few key phrases I want to target because I feel potential customers can "google" a few different phrases. If they are new customers looking for garbage service, they might type in any of the following:

Waste Management Chicago
waste removal Chicago
garbage hauler Chicago
garbage service Chicago
trash hauler Chicago
trash service Chicago
Waste Management Recycling Chicago
Recycling Service Chicago
My Home page Title - Description - Content is really focused on the keywords of:

Waste Management Chicago
waste removal Chicago -

Here is my question:

- On the home - do I want to key in all the key word searches on my home page: i.e recycling services chicago, garbage hauler chicago, trash hauler chicago, Waste Management Recycling Chicago, Compactors, Green etc.

or do I want to target certain keyword phrases only on particular pages on my website.

EXAMPLE:

Home Page - Use only keywords such as Waste Management Chicago, waste removal chicago -

Recycling Page - Use word only associated with recycling in Chicago - Waste Management Chicago Recycling, Recycling Service Chicago.

Hope that makes sense - I leaning towards using keywords only for the particular page since the CONTENT will be there - i.e. If I make a recycling page and use recycling words - the Search Engines should see the content is about recycling. I think if I use recycling keywords and the content is about compactors - then I would guess the search engines would not give me as high of a ranking.

Thanks for the help - New at SEO - Thanks for all the tips.

I've got one website on a .info domain - and I'm having difficulty getting this one particular website ranked for the keyword phrase it is build around. I purchased this domain and created this site particularly to get positioning on this one phrase. The strange thing is that its got a google PR4, so it should be doing much better than it is. So my question is "do the search engines give any different weighting to different domain extensions .com, .net or .info etc?"

Hi aPaul -Michael from Toronto here again. I'm wondering if you could answer a question around domain hosting and SEO. I have signed up with a free hosting provider (doteasy) that supports full custom domains but just realized they do not offer static IP address with the free package. Will this affect my SEO efforts?

My question is this. I have read varying opinions on the use of H1, H2, H3 etc. tags and their impact on the search engines. Are they really that important? And if they are, does it matter if I alter then using CSS instead? Lastly, do they impact just Google or others as well?

I have two blogs:

If you look closely, you'll realize that both blogs share nearly 100% of the same content. I did this so that I could further develop the LOCAL blog (since I was trying to get better placement for local potential
clients).

Indeed, the LOCAL one took off and is number 1.

The other blog is not doing nearly as well (more competition for the state-wide search term). Though I'm convinced that I'm doing something else wrong that keeps me buried - I KNOW my content is newer and fresher than much of my competition.

I have 4 wordpress blogs
which I host myself. Only one of my sites is a "static" webpage, although
it does have a subdomain which is a wordpress blog as well. In any case, I have applied a setting in Wordpress that turns the title of
each blog post into a full text descriptive name (including date and
category). Does this count as
a doorway/gateway page?

Keyword Ordering - When creating keyword tags, is it necessary to come
up with every possible permutation of the same string? For example, if I
have 'florida probate law,' must I also have 'probate law florida' or 'law
probate florida'? Or does Google get the picture?

Here's my question:
===============
Since the sporans are made of either "fur" or "leather." What would
you add to make these 2 URLs better?
------------
http://www.sporans.com/fur/fursporans.html
and
http://www.sporans.com/leather/leathersporans.html
------------

I was thinking
------------
/fabrics/ (but, sounds like cloth)
and

/materials/
and
/type/ (but, both sound too vague or general)

/please-suggest-a-more-descriptive-directory-here/
to become /X/ below.

So, the 2 URLs will become:
------------
http://www.sporans.com/X/fur/fursporans.html
and
http://www.sporans.com/X/leather/leathersporans.html
------------

For example, if you had just bought icecream.com, and you wanted to

( Makes ya hungry just thinkin' 'bout 'em all, don't it? :) LOL )

Knowing that your URL get crawled by the search engine spiders,...

Which of these URLs would be the best SEO solution, if you had

SPAM-ish or OverKill to the search engine spiders?

I am currently developing content for a web site and have a question that hopefully you may be able to answer. You frequently state that adding 'fresh content' to your site is one of the best ways to increase your page rank with the major search engines. Unfortuately most of the pages on my site will contain evergreen content with little need to add fresh content... For example, assume my site was all about furniture refinishing. It might have a page on how to sand drawers, a page on how to repair wood gouges, and a page on how to apply stain. Let us also assume this content is the best written and most comprehensive ever written on the subject. There would be no reason to ever add fresh content to these pages, right? Sure, I could spend lots of time re-writing/re-phrasing/re-structuring copy, but this seems to be to a huge waste of time that adds no value to the user.

1.) Do you need to and should you submit your Web site to Google UK, Google Ireland, and what amounts to Google Scotland and similar branches of Yahoo? Or does the general submission to Google and Yahoo (worldwide) 'cover all the bases'? I'm also interested in learning more about domain names with 2-letter country code endings (like: .co.uk and .ie)..... 2.) On the search engine form, how do you go about getting listed in the results for 'pages from Ireland' or in the Google regional Directory for 'Search only in Scotland'? Would you *have* to have a '.ie' or '.uk' domain name respectively? And, is it possible for an American citizen to purchase a '.ie', '.uk' or other international domain name? And, if it is possible, would it necessarily be considered Black Hat to do so, or would it be just another form of 'covering all of your SEO bases'?

<itunes:summary>1.) Do you need to and should you submit your Web site to Google UK, Google Ireland, and what amounts to Google Scotland and similar branches of Yahoo? Or does the general submission to Google and Yahoo (worldwide) 'cover all the bases'? I'm also interested in learning more about domain names with 2-letter country code endings (like: .co.uk and .ie)..... 2.) On the search engine form, how do you go about getting listed in the results for 'pages from Ireland' or in the Google regional Directory for 'Search only in Scotland'? Would you *have* to have a '.ie' or '.uk' domain name respectively? And, is it possible for an American citizen to purchase a '.ie', '.uk' or other international domain name? And, if it is possible, would it necessarily be considered Black Hat to do so, or would it be just another form of 'covering all of your SEO bases'?</itunes:summary>

I am developing a Web site for a client, and I have a question for you.

Say I am developing www.wheelbaRowS.com (a fictitious site).

If other common/uncommon spellings and singular/plurals of a domain
(such as:
wheelbaRow.com,
wheelbaRRowS.com, and
wheelbaRRow.com)
came up for sale, should I buy them up to eliminate the competition?

And, if I'm mainly interested in developing just the 1st site, what's
the best SEO solution for using or not using the other 3 (for
instance) domains?

I have been listening to your podcast(s) for a while and was wondering
about a particular issue regarding multiple words used in domains,
directories, and filenames.

Here's the question: If you had to rank these choices from best to
worst, in terms of good SEO, what would your order be?

Say you had a person's name (or multiple keywords making up a new
domain name) that needed to be used in a directory name
and also a filename inside that directory.

If the person's name were: Mary Virginia Smith-Collier (as an
example), what is your opinion on using the "%20 space character" vs.
the hyphen("-") vs. the underscore("_") vs. just running all the names
together in one long
string, and possibly eliminating a hyphen in a name?

I heard that if the one long string created another "undesirable" word
when joined that that would confuse the Search Engine spider and
therefore, you should *never* join multiple words as one long string.
For instance: Pleasant Hill Estates would give you the obvious:
pleasANTHILLestates.com as a sorta funny example.
