Praising - Thinking - Praying - Living Applying are actions that add up to Reflecting. What does the word of God mean to me? How do I pray and live into my faith? Many of these questions are asked over and over in the hearts of people on a daily basis. Reflections of the Word are thought provoking readings of praise, prayers, scripture and expressions about who God is and actions that we can take to live into our faith right now. Take a moment to reflect.

Romans 5:1-8 (New International Version)

Peace and Joy
1.Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a]have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
2.through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
3.Not only so, but we[c] also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
4.perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
6.You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
7.Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
8.But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The Great Commission - A Personal Instruction
The Great Commission is one of the most significant passages in the Holy Bible. First, it's the last recorded personal instruction given by Jesus to His disciples. Second, it's a special calling from Jesus Christ to all His followers to take specific action while on this earth. The Great Commission is found in the Gospel of Matthew:

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Great Commission - Its Significance for Christians
The Great Commission is the end of a Gospel and the beginning of faith in action for all Christians. This command from Jesus is significant because it's a personal instruction for Christians to have a profound faith in Jesus Christ as indicated in verse 18. "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." This is an incredibly powerful statement which demands faith in Jesus Christ, validating His power in the lives of Christians and their commitment to Him. This verse acts as a clear claim to Christ's omnipotence, and therefore His deity. If Christians do not believe this statement, complete faith does not exist. Jesus is very clear about His authority in the world -- it is complete and total from the beginning of time itself (John 1:1-3).

In verse 19, Jesus gives His believers specific directions to follow after they have affirmed their faith. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Jesus calls all His followers to act and share the Good News of salvation throughout the world. People hear this calling and travel each year on missionary trips throughout the earth, spreading the word of Jesus Christ. Many Christians have made incredible sacrifices, traveling to remote regions of the world beyond the civilized cities into jungles and deserts. Mission fields can also be very close to home. It could be a neighbor who has not heard the Good News, or a poverty stricken area just down the road where people can't afford Bibles. In the 21st century, the Internet has become a mission field where people can reach out and share Christ's love. The places and people who need to hear the Gospel are everywhere!

Another important aspect of verse 19 is that Christ is specifically teaching the doctrine of the Trinity to His followers. The three Persons of the Godhead are each equally and fully God and here presented in the logical order of Father, Son and Holy Spirit - yet only One God from the beginning (see Romans 1:20).

Finally, in verse 20, Jesus provides specific direction with affirmation to His followers, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Christians are instructed to teach others about Jesus Christ and the entirety of His truth. We can't profess Christ as Savior and Lord, while rejecting certain of His teachings. As we teach Christ's truths, verse 20 declares that we can be confident, in faith, that Jesus Christ will support us. This fact has proven trustworthy throughout the centuries as millions of believers have heard, accepted and shared the Good News of Jesus Christ. Yes, Christ has ascended back to heaven, but He is present by the power of the Holy Spirit in every believer!

All: We confess we have wanted peace but have not invested the time nor called upon You to make it happen. We divide ourselves as you call us into unity and we forget to live in the peace that you promise us in Jesus Christ. Forgive us, we pray. Free us to praise you in our words and our deeds.

Pastor: Lord help us to stop and experience Your holy kiss. Encourage us to witness faith in a new way, so that through the love of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God we will me made whole. In the name of Jesus Christ, praise God! You are forgiven!

Pastor: Lord help us to stop and experience Your holy kiss. Encourage us to witness faith in a new way, so that through the love of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God we will me made whole. In the name of Jesus Christ, praise God! You are forgiven!

WHAT IS TRINITY SUNDAY?

The first Sunday after Pentecost is the Festival of the Holy Trinity. On this day, the church rejoices in the impenetrable mystery that God is triune (three-in-one) -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. How the Lord can be one God in three distinct persons is completely beyond the ability of any human to understand. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Christians accept this incomprehensible mystery as a fundamental article of faith.

Introduction: Before I set the tone for this sermon, I want to thank all persons who helped make this worship work together to glorify God. I ask you to give all a handclap of thanksgiving as we go to God in prayer. Let us pray.
Prayer: Gracious Father we come to you this morning saying thank you for your mercy, love and grace. On this day we ask for a special blessing for families who are grieving from loss and sadness due to death. Help me to call upon our Lord for guidance; call upon Jesus Christ for his undying love and call upon the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Move me behind the cross and allow only your words for your people to come forth. Cover us with your Spirit and open our ears so that we might receive your Holy Word. Gracious Lord, nurture us through your Word, teach us to accept the freedom, release us from fear and unforgiveness so that we may receive your Power. O¢?? Lord, let us know that your love is enough. In Jesus¢?? name, we pray. Amen.
Sermon: Faithfulness in and through the fire. What does fire do? It can destroy, it can burn, and it can purify.
When I was young and got a splinter in my finger, my grandmother would burn the needle tip to prick my skin to pull the splinter out. That¢??s faith in the fire. The love could be fiery, the pain was fiery, and my faith was at times shakey. Everyone who calls upon the Lord will be saved! God¢??s Gift and Jesus Promise! Life is great because of a great gift! Acts 2: 1-21 ¢?? The promise exemplified on the Day of Pentecost (tell the story; then read 17-21) Importance? Everyone who calls the name shall be saved.

One of the principal days of the Christian year, celebrated on the fiftieth day after Easter. The Greek word pentecoste means "fiftieth day." Pentecost is the day on which the Christian church commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and others assembled in Jerusalem. It marks the beginning of the Christian church and the proclamation of its message throughout the world and is often referred to as the birthday of the church. The liturgical color for Pentecost is red. Traditionally, Pentecost has been a day for baptisms. Because it was the custom in the early church for persons being baptized to wear white robes or clothing, the day also became known as Whitsunday, a contraction of white Sunday.

Mother's Day is set apart every year in honor of motherhood. On the second Sunday in May, many families and churches make a special point of honoring mothers. Many people follow the custom of wearing a carnation on Mother's Day. A colored carnation means that a person's mother is living. A white carnation indicates that a person's mother is dead.

Mother's Day, first observed in 1908, was recognized officially by Congress and the President in 1914. It is celebrated in honor of the nation's mothers on the second Sunday in May. Mother's Day is one of the holidays that have been designated by Presidential proclamations.

A day for honoring mothers was observed many years ago in England. It was called Mothering Sunday, and came in mid-Lent. Yugoslavs and people in other nations have observed similar days.

Pastor: Lord, too often we take the easy option. We hide in shame. We avoid connecting with our Christian family. We bury ourselves in work. Yet our sin remains untouched and obvious to you. We come today asking for the courage to run to you instead of running away from you when we are in trouble. Hear our prayers, Lord. Bend down low to see our sincerity. Guide us along the path of repentance that leads to reconciliation.

2008 Prayer for Our Nation

Dr. Ravi Zacharias
2008 Honorary Chairman, National Day of Prayer Task Force

Holy Father, in a world where so many are hungry,
You have given us food in abundance;

In a world where so many are hurting,
You offer to bind up our wounds;

In a world where so many are lonely,
You offer friendship to every heart;

In a world longing for peace,
You offer hope.

Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant.
Have mercy upon us, Lord.

Our nation is at a crossroads this year;
we look to you to be our strength and shield.

Please give us the guidance to elect one who will honor you
and to respond to the wisdom from above
so that our hope may be renewed and our blessings be treasured.

In God's holy name.

Love - Mark 12:28-33
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" 29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." 32 "Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

Matt. 22:15-22- Mk 12:13-17- Lk 20:20-26
Gracious Lord, thank you for the great examples of integrity given to humanity to follow through your written Word. Teaching us to honor You with our first fruits begins with our willingness to share our gifts of offering with a clean heart. At times during tax season, we fall short in our preparation for Caesar. Lord, forgive our tardiness, anxiety, and limited organization. In these moments of distress, we seek God?¢??s favor, peace, and clarity of mind. Please guide all who gather necessary items needed to ?¢??give to Caesar what is Caesar?¢??s, and to God what is God?¢??s.?¢?? Grant us great grace to take the proper steps of accountability to allow time to serve us in positive ways. In the end, we thank you for bringing forth truth in our daily matters of tax reporting. Guided by Your Spirit, let us thank God now for the grace that restores and reconciles financial health upon all seeking you this day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

Grace and Peace to all. Welcome to Nu Faith Community UMC. Today marks a day of new beginnings for continuous weekly worship starts now! Look around "I new folks here, new folks there, and some reconnection over here. All around us is the presence of God" love. Let us begin this journey with Isaiah 43: 18 and 19
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
This litany is designed to embrace diversity in various ways. Today as we acknowledge Native American Ministries Sunday in the UMC, Jessica Paul-Reyna will join me.
Come and experience dynamic worship in a "family-friendly" environment at Nu Faith Community UMC. Our continuous worship experience starts this Sunday, April 6th at 10:00 am in the Houston Ballrooms located at 14880 Bammel North Houston Road, Houston, TX 77014. Don't miss the beginning of a great new church in Northwest Houston. Nu Faith Community is a "place where you can meet God @ anytime!"

It had been a long three days. They had known the feeling of terror in the face of false accusations, the trauma of a mock trial, and the helplessness of standing by while a loved one was convicted of a crime he had not committed. Yet, this was only the backdrop for the deep agony of nameless, hopeless grief that would crash around them like a tidal wave when the one who had been son, brother, teacher, and savior was brutally killed. There is no making sense of such aching sorrow. The first days after such a tragedy found the women who were closest to Jesus in life wanting only to touch and prepare his body one last time in death. He had talked of resurrection. He had said that in three days he would rise. But it was not resurrection that was on the mind of those women. It was death. Imagine the moment of recognition when Jesus stood before them again. Imagine the elation of re-union. Imagine the radiant hope that followed those three days of pain. Imagine the faith that was kindled as a result of that "Easter" experience.

But the Easter story is not only an experience, an event. It is a way of life. The resurrection of Jesus created the hope in Christians that death is never the end -- resurrection is. We not only look forward to an eternal future with the Holy One, we have the opportunity to experience Easter moments in the midst of our everyday lives. We know that death and sorrow stand nearby -- whether it be physical death, the loss of a job, the loss of a relationship, the loss of a dream -- but resurrection also waits to be noticed at the edges of our life. We have all known the wonder of a healing, a new job, a new love, a new dream being born out of the agony of hopelessness. Making Easter a way of life means that we are unwilling to settle for death in any of its forms. We are unwilling to give up hope and belief that new life is always being offered to us by heaven. We are unwilling to be ground down by grief when God's goodness is extended to us. Making Easter a way of life means that we turn our eyes toward resurrection each and every day, searching for its signs, believing in its truth, living into its glory.

Greeting: Grace and Peace to all; to God be the glory! Today is the day that the Lord has made and we serve a risen Savior. As lots of praise and thanksgiving went forth during Holy Week, we are blessed by the sharing of God's love through messages of Encouraging Faith. We hope that you will enjoy this reflection celebrating new hope through the knowledge that resurrection of Jesus Christ is real. Let us hear God¢??s Word through John 20: 19-31 from the Message and Acts 2: 14, 22-32 from the Bible Experience. Prayers of hope from The Africana Liturgy offer expressions of grace and love as we are reminded that Jesus Christ rose. Amen.
Pastoral Prayer: It's prayer time! Gracious Father we come to you this morning saying thank you for your rising up with all power, mercy, love and grace. O' Lord, let us know that your love is enough. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

As lots of praise and thanksgiving went forth during Holy Week, we are blessed by the sharing of Godâ??s love through messages of Encouraging Faith. We hope that you will enjoy this reflection celebrating new hope through the knowledge that resurrection of Jesus Christ is real. Let us hear Godâ??s Word through Matthew 29: 1-10 from the Message and Psalm 118: 1-2, 14-24 from the Bible Experience. Prayers of hope from Africana Liturgy are shared to help remind of us of our legacy of grace as we are reminded that Jesus Christ rose. Amen.
Pastoral Prayer: Itâ??s prayer time! Gracious Father we come to you this morning saying thank you for your rising up with all power, mercy, love and grace. Oâ?? Lord, let us know that your love is enough. In Jesusâ?? name, we pray. Amen.

Good Friday worship is marked by austerity and silence. The music of keyboards and other instruments is minimized or eliminated altogether. The altar, completely stripped of appointments, is normally not used. Instead, one or more lecterns or reading desks serve as the focal points of the service. The passion narrative from the gospel of John (John 18:1-19:42) is traditionally the appointed text for this day. The two liturgical services for Good Friday are the Tre Ore and the Tenebrae.

The principal Good Friday worship service is one that starts at noon and is called the Tre Ore (Italian for "Three Hours"). This service is a somber commemoration of the last three hours of our Lord's suffering on the cross. It features homilies, hymns, and other meditations centered on Christ's seven words from the cross. In addition, the Tre Ore contains several unique sequences that are among the most beautiful and moving in the entire historic liturgy. The first of these is the Bidding Prayer. In this special prayer, the pastor leads the congregation in a series of intercessions (called "bids") for the needs of the church and the entire world. The Tre Ore service also calls for the carrying of a rough wooden cross (often fashioned out of the trunk of the church's Christmas tree) in slow procession through the nave to the chancel, where it is then leaned against the altar. Worshipers can offer a sign of adoration such as bowing, kneeling, or touching the cross as it passes by. During the procession, the congregation or choir sings a hymn in praise of Christ's saving work on the cross. Finally, a rite that is often incorporated into the Tre Ore after the cross processional is the chanting or reading of an ancient liturgical text known in Latin as the Improperia. These heart-breaking verses, based on Old Testament passages such as Micah 6:3, Psalm 69:21, and Isaiah 5:2-4, are a series of stinging accusations brought by Christ against the church for His suffering and death on the cross. These powerful reproaches reveal the many ways that each one of us is responsible for the Lord's crucifixion. Depending on local circumstances churches will frequently conduct a Tre Ore that does not last three full hours but does contain some of the traditional features of this ancient service. However, the Tre Ore is designed to conclude at 3 PM (the "ninth hour" of the New Testament crucifixion accounts), the time that Christ gave up His life (Matthew 27:45-50).

The Tenebrae or Service of Darkness takes place in the evening. It derives its name from the gradual extinguishing of candles and lights at various points in the service. The ensuing darkness is a symbolic recreation of the darkness that covered the land when our Lord died (Mark 15:33). It also brings to mind the fading life of our Lord as He hung on the cross. Scripture readings and hymns direct the hearts of the people to repent of the sins that made our Lord's crucifixion necessary. The last remaining candle (representing Jesus) is not extinguished like the others, but is carried out of the chancel. The Service of Darkness ends with the strepitus, a sudden loud noise caused by the slamming shut of a book or door. The strepitus symbolizes the tumultuous earthquake that accompanied the Lord's death (Matthew 27:46-53) and the shutting of the tomb when He was interred. It also foreshadows the breaking of the tomb at the Resurrection described in Matthew 28:2. The Christ candle is then returned to the altar as a reminder to the worshippers that even in the midst of death and darkness our Lord was not defeated by the devil, but rose in triumph on Easter morning. The people then disperse in silence.

Palm Sunday is the day we remember the "triumphal entry" of Jesus into Jerusalem, exactly one week before His resurrection (Matthew 21:1-11). Some 450-500 years earlier, the Prophet Zechariah had prophesied, "Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Zechariah 9:9). Matthew 21:7-9 records the fulfillment of that prophecy: "They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!" This event took place on the Sunday before Jesus' crucifixion.

In remembrance of this event, we celebrate Palm Sunday. It is referred to as "Palm Sunday" because of the palm branches that were laid on the road as Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem. Palm Sunday was the fulfillment of the Prophet Daniel's "seventy sevens" prophecy - "Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven 'sevens,' and sixty-two 'sevens.' It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble" (Daniel 9:25). John 1:11 tells us, "He (Jesus) came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him." The same crowds that were crying out "Hosanna" were crying out "crucify Him" five days later (Matthew 27:22-23).

Prayer: Gracious Father we come to you this day as we thank you for your mercy, love and grace. O' Lord, let us know that your love is enough. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Today, Lent is marked by a time of prayer and preparation to celebrate Easter. Since Sundays celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the six Sundays that occur during Lent are not counted as part of the 40 days of Lent, and are referred to as the Sundays in Lent. The number 40 is connected with many biblical events, but especially with the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness preparing for His ministry by facing the temptations that could lead him to abandon his mission and calling. Christians today use this period of time for introspection, self examination, and repentance. This season of the year is equal only to the Season of Advent in importance in the Christian year, and is part of the second major grouping of Christian festivals and sacred time that includes Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost.

Lent has traditionally been marked by penitential prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Some churches today still observe a rigid schedule of fasting on certain days during Lent, especially the giving up of meat, alcohol, sweets, and other types of food. Other traditions do not place as great an emphasis on fasting, but focus on charitable deeds, especially helping those in physical need with food and clothing, or simply the giving of money to charities. Most Christian churches that observe Lent at all focus on it as a time of prayer, especially penance, repenting for failures and sin as a way to focus on the need for Godâ??s grace. It is really a preparation to celebrate Godâ??s marvelous redemption at Easter, and the resurrected life that we live, and hope for, as Christians.

The first day of Lent. It marks the beginning of a period of reflection and penance. In the Bible, sprinkling oneself with ashes was traditionally a sign of one's sorrow for having committed sins. In the Christian tradition, Ash Wednesday also marked the beginning of preparation for the understanding of the death and resurrection of Christ. The particular symbolism of ashes for this day comes from a practice in the Roman Catholic churches in which the ashes from the palms used in the preceding year's Palm Sunday celebration are blessed. With these ashes, the priest on the first day of Lent marks a cross on the forehead of each worshiper.

On Ash Wednesday we come to church to kneel, to pray, and to ask Godâ??s forgiveness, surrounded by other sinners. Human sin is universal; we all do it, not only Christians. But our church tradition sets aside Ash Wednesday as a particular day to address sin and death. We do this mindful that "God hates nothing God has made and forgives the sins of all who are penitent." We are ALL sinners, no better and no worse than our brothers and sisters. This is not a day to compete ("my sins are worse than yours are"), but to confessâ?¦.

Ash Wednesday is the gateway to Lent. We have forty precious days to open ourselves up most particularly to God, to examine ourselves in the presence of one who created us, knows us, and loves us. We have forty days to face ourselves and learn to not be afraid of our sinfulness. We are dust, and to dust we shall return, but with Godâ??s grace we can learn to live this life more fully, embracing our sinfulness, allowing God to transform us.

Pastoral Prayer:
Gracious Father we come to you today saying thank you for your mercy, love and grace. On this day we ask for a special blessing for this a new season. Help me to call upon our Lord for guidance; call upon Jesus Christ for his undying love and call upon the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Cover this Word with your Spirit; Gracious Lord, nurture us through your Word, teach us to accept the freedom, release us from fear and unforgiveness so that we may receive your Power. O' Lord, let us know that your love is enough. In Jesusâ?? name, we pray. Amen.

Have you ever been in a situation when you worked hard to achieve something and it just doesnâ??t seem to work out?Ã? But no sooner than you let go and walked away, the next person achieved it.Ã? You know what I mean, last month you put all the hints out that you were very interested in being the lead for an upcoming project and no on paid it any attention.Ã?Â

Then you get word that the person who sent one email into your manager is suddenly in charge. They were direct and you assumed they would pick you. Or maybe you have done everything your supervisor has asked, plus some and the new person in the department gets the promotion that you thought was yours. Suddenly, you start wondering about whatâ??s going on in your life because nothing seems to come from your efforts and out of no where you start asking yourself, â??what is wrong with me?â?? If I am doing the right thing, then why canâ??t I get the right results?

Believe it or not young people, you are not alone when it comes to situations that seem a little odd. In this Matthew passage, things seemed a little odd. The fisherman had fished all night and the results werenâ??t looking like good. As a matter of fact, they hadnâ??t caught one fish between them. Just think about the fish tales youâ??ve heard or experienced when fisherman get together. Itâ??s always I got one this big and I caught one even bigger then that or you should have seen the one that I caught. The stories grow larger and larger by the moment. But itâ??s tough to create a tale that can explain an empty boat. As we enter this passage, the fishermen have called it quits.

At that moment, if we were to insert ourselves in the story, we might ask our partners, was this the right river for fishing or did we have the right kind of equipment or maybe even blame a few folksâ?¦I told you, we should have went fishing on the other lake but you said â??this was the place to be!â?? The real concern is why didnâ??t the expected results occur? What are you fishing for?

<itunes:summary>Have you ever been in a situation when you worked hard to achieve something and it just doesnâ??t seem to work out?Ã?

What are you fishing for?</itunes:summary>

What is worry? It could be that uncomfortable pain when tuition is due but the funds are not
available. Sometimes it's the moment when the only working car has just stopped on the freeway. You feel
it when John ran out of money before he could pay all his bills and he asked you to loan him a few dollars.

Worry also shows up when Sally lost her second job in the past nine months and she/can't keep living on the
edge. It gets mixed up with frustration when the last flight to Houston was cancelled and Southwest Airlines
won't pay for the cost of staying in a hotel for one night. Worry shows up when you discover that the
refrigerator broke and all the food has spoiled. Worry is the look we see in the little girl's eyes when her
mom begs on the corner as we run through the yellow light because we are not ready to put a name on the
face of homelessness. The God of our understanding speaks to our hearts saying, "Do not worry about your
life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear (Matt. 6: 25)." When
life happens, worry is that separation from God's will. However God responds with, "Do not worry."
Worry is a natural human response to life's difficult moments that makes us rely solely on self and
not God for guidance. When I think about Jesus telling humanity not to worry about food, clothing or
tomorrow's concerns, Jesus gets my attention. As I began listing life's challenges, I thought about what a
worry-free life might really look like. Freedom popped into my mind. Imagine Jesus preaching about living
free from worry and Bobby McFerrin's lyrics, from a 1988 movie soundtrack, is playing in the background
"don't worry, be happy!" Even though the words of this popular tune connect well with Jesus' directives
from the Sermon on the Mount, is there more to being free from worrying than humming a little snappy tune
from the 80's? As we replace the song "Don't worry, be happy" with scriptural understanding, I invite you
to journey with me through Matthew 6: 25-34 to discover, "What does it take to live worry-free for Jesus?"

"What a blessing it is to know Gods love as we embrace the grace granted to us each day ", represents the outgoing spirit of the keynote speaker, Rev. Jacqueline Thomas King. This dynamic speaker presented a thought-provoking message at the Freedom Awards Banquet for the Port Arthur NAACP held at the Carl Parker Building on the Lamar State College campus. This timeless proclamation is worth hearing again today. Check it out!

: Prayer:
O'Lord we thank you for a brand new season in our lives. Humbly we come before you confessing that our sins has separated us from your love. For this day, we submit our hearts to you asking boldly for grace to renew our spirit. Because you are God, Gracious Father we come to you today saying thank you for your mercy, love and grace. On this day we ask for a special blessing for this a new year and for families who are grieving from loss and sadness due to death. Help all to call upon our Lord for guidance; call upon Jesus Christ for his undying love and call upon the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Cover this Word with your Spirit; Gracious Lord, nurture us through your Word, teach us to accept the freedom, release us from fear and unforgiveness so that we may receive your Power. O' Lord, let us know that your love is enough. May this reflection give us hope to help us serve as agents of transformation and peace, In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. Reflection Notes: When you think about Baptism, what comes to your mind? Family, adoption, connection to the body of Christ, and acknowledge of our spiritual life. As you think about Baptism as a means of grace and a way of beginning our journey of belonging to the body of believers. Before I move further, let me share some highlights of the lectionary passages of Matthew 3:13-17 and Acts 34: 34-43
