Today on a MMA Discussions Radio Toby Glenn is joined by Jamie â??The Wormâ?? Varner. Jamie Varner originally comes from Arizona and trains there. He is fighting in the WEC against Razor Rob McCullough. I discuss with him his fight with Hermes Franca, cutting weight, his training for this fight, and so much more. I also talked to him about something that's really important to me which is MMA in Pennsylvania and we discuss what drives fighters to be high-level athletes in mixed martial arts from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania and why many of them move away after college. Arizona Combat Sports is the name of the gym that he trains at and he discusses his training partners and how they've helped him prepare for this fight. He mentioned Deer Valley High School Memorial foundation which is helping families that were affected in a busing accident. To gain the full information about the accident and how to donate go to http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0109bus0109main.html.

Toby Glenn, Tim, and Steve Cujo discussed UFC 81 breaking point but before that we go on to talk about Cung Le versus Frank Shamrock. This fight sparked a huge debate between Tim and Toby Glenn. Toby picks to Frank Shamrock win the fight. However, Tim picksCung Le to win by knockout. Toby thinks it's absurd that a fighter who's never fought a true 185 pound fighter in its entire history can beat Frank Shamrock. Tim seems to believe that the Phil Baroni fight was a set up and that Frank Shamrock hasn't won a fight since his return to mixed martial arts. That makes sense because Frank Shamrock's first fight back was against Henzo Gracie and he lost that by disqualification. It was a heated debate and in the end neither of us could agree and we made a wager on that battle. We then go on to discuss all the flight on the UFC 81 breaking point fight card including Tim Boetsch vs. David Heath , Chris Lytle vs. Kyle Bradley, Keita Nakamura vs. Rob Emerson, Marvin Eastman vs. Terry Martin, Gleison Tibaua vs. Tyson Griffin, Ricardo Almeida vs. Alan Belcher, Jeremy Horn vs. Nathan Marquardt, Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar, Tim Sylvia vs. Antonio Rodrigo â??Minotauroâ?? Nogueira.

The stoppage of that fight in Toby's opinion was based on kicks to the back of the head which were illegal in K1 Hero's. Toby and Tim talk to Bill Smallwood the icefighter who is a professional fighter with a 2 and 2 mixed martial arts record.
In this episode of MMA Discussions radio Toby Glenn and Steve Cujo go over UFC Fight Night 12. Toby airs his opinion that Josh Burkman did not get a fair decision. This fight card was pretty good but Toby spends some time complaining because he did not do so good on his picks. He also discusses the changes to Drew McFedries stance and more. Then Toby Glenn and Steve Cujo go over the ShoXC Elite challenger event which in Toby's opinion was the best ShoXC event ever. It had a good main event with Philadelphia, PA native Eddie Alvarez taking on a tough Hawaiian in Ross da boos Ebanez. The show even started off with a bang when Kala Kolohe Hose took on Frederic Belleton. Check out my full recap on the show.

Toby Glenn and Steve Cujo talked with the King of the Cage Lightweight Champion Joe Camacho. He just got a big win over Thomas "The Wildman" Denny at a King of the Cage show. He overwhelmed Denny and really took the fight to him. We talked to Joe about his carrier and what he is doing next. It was a great interview and something motivational to listen to.

Jeff gave us an understanding of where he comes from and how he started Damage Wear and American Fighter. We spend quite a bit of time also discussing Rich Franklin who is of course a close friend of Jeff Adler. He talks about starting out with Rich and Rich's part in American Fighter's success. He also talks about a potential tv show featuring Rich that he is in talks with networks about putting on the air. Jeff is a great guy and he explains quite a bit about what it is like being one of the larger MMA sponsors. He also discusses the new management services and other offerings from American Fighter. Then Tim and Noah Thomas interview Mikey Burnett. Mikey talks about teaching fighters and still learning even at his experience level. Mikey always delivers so much incite into the fight game.
Tim and Matt talk to Noah Inhofer who is a fighter who trained in his basement and now trains with Miletich in Iowa. He fought Jesse Forbes on the Ultimate Fighter season three. Took his first fight in a tournament and ended up doing well you'll have to here the full story or Noah's fighting carrier. His fight record is inaccurate as with many of the other guests we have had one the show. He has had many more fights than what is recorded. Then Toby and Matt brake down the Strikeforce event happening this weekend. The big fight of contention for us was the main event of Paul Buentello vs. Alistair Overeem. I pick Paul and Matt picks Overeem find out why on the show.

Tonight I talked with Tony Bugno about MMA in Pa. We talked about the rules that will be used. Some of the preliminary ideas from the PA athletic commission had been questioned by him. We discussed the idea that there may be no striking on the ground for amateur mma. If you want to let Mr. Sirb know that you would not like that email him at gsirb@state.pa.us or by the phone number given on the show.
